| Welcome to SPSUAUV Team website. |
|
This website is dedicated exclusively to the development of The Trident.
The Trident is the autonomous submarine built, maintained and continuously improved
by a talented and dedicated team of engineering students at
Southern Polytechnic State University ( SPSU ).
Since its inception in 2003, it has been the teams goal to meet and exceed
the mission parameters set forth by the Association for
Unmanned Vehicle Systems International ( AUVSI ).
Big improvements in our AUV systems were made this year. Visit our subsystems pages to get
to know The Trident. We are excited to place our vehicle head to head with some of the best teams in the world.

The Trident is an autonomous underwater-vehicle, which has been designed and built by the students of the Southern Polytechnic's AUV team. The vehicle was created for the purpose of competing in the AUVSI's International Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Competition. It was designed to perform the tasks and meet the objectives outlined in the AUVSI's Mission Statement. |
The Trident has been completely redesigned from last year's model, Bob. The main features of the new vehicle are the drastically reduced weight and the compactness of the main electronics. The dry weight of the vehicle is 10.4kg and the main electronics are confined to a container which measures about 26cm x 16cm x 12 cm. Our onboard electronics include a vision system, a sonar system, a propulsion system, navigation system, and a command and control system. The electronics and the motors are powered by two lithium polymer batteries. A 7.4V, 910mAh Thunder Power battery is used for the electronics and a 14.8V, 4200mAh battery is used to power the motors. |

We believe this year's new design will place us within the top five if not first place in this competition. Our team roster has increased resulting in more talent available. We are confident this year will bring us recognition among student engineers world wide.
